Carla's Tits
Bird Art with a Message
Carla's Tits is a simple idea inspired by a life-changing experience.
Following a breast cancer diagnosis in 2025, Suffolk artist Carla Elizabeth began thinking about how she could use her love of birds and nature to encourage more people to check their breasts regularly.
The aim isn't to create fear or focus on illness. Quite the opposite.
Most of us see blue tits, great tits and other garden birds almost every day. They hop through our gardens, visit our feeders and brighten even the dullest mornings.
What if every time you spotted one, it simply reminded you to take a moment and check your own?
That's the idea behind Carla's Tits.
Through bird-inspired artwork, cards, gifts and exhibitions, Carla hopes to create gentle reminders that fit naturally into everyday life. No lectures, no medical jargon and no scare tactics – just a friendly prompt from nature to look after yourself.
If even one person notices a bird, remembers to check, and finds something early, then the project has done exactly what it was created to do.
So next time you see a blue tit or great tit in the garden, take a moment.
Enjoy the bird. Then check your tits.
