Bespoke Pet Portraits

Hand-Drawn Pet Portraits

Since March 2022, I’ve been creating hand-drawn pet portraits in soft pastels – each one a celebration of a much-loved companion. After becoming a dog mum myself, I was struck by the deep bond we share with our animals. There’s something so personal about that connection, and it’s a joy to capture it on paper.

Each custom pet portrait is drawn from your favourite photo and created with pastel pencils to bring out the unique character and charm of your pet – from dogs and cats to horses and hens. Whether it’s a thoughtful gift or a way to remember a furry friend, these custom portraits are full of heart and made with care in my Suffolk studio.

You’ll be part of the process from the start, and together we’ll create a one-of-a-kind piece that you and your family can treasure for years to come.

FAQs

How much does a portrait cost?

Prices start at £150 for a hand-drawn 8x8 inch square portrait on your choice of background colour, created in soft pastel from your favourite photo.

Other popular sizes include:

A4 (approx. 8.3 x 11.7") – £180

A3 (approx. 11.7 x 16.5") – £250

12x12 inch square – £220

Want to include a scenic or stylised background? That can be added for £30. Framing is also available, starting from £25 depending on size and style.

Every portrait is unique, so if you’re after something different — another size, orientation, or multiple pets — just get in touch and I’ll be happy to provide a personalised quote.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

No — you only pay once you’re happy with the finished portrait.
Payment is due after you approve a photo proof of your artwork and before delivery.

How long will it take?

Lead times can vary, so please contact me for my current availability.

If you need a portrait quickly for a special occasion, I’ll always do my best to accommodate – just let me know!

What happens once I place an order?

Once we’ve discussed your requirements, I’ll ask you to send over your reference photos. I’ll then create a layout plan for you to review before I start drawing.

If you'd like, I can send progress updates along the way. When the portrait is complete, I’ll send you a final image for approval — you’ll be able to request small tweaks at this stage (though no major layout changes).

Once you’re happy, I’ll arrange framing (if required) and delivery.

Do you deliver?

If you’re based in East Suffolk, I’ll try to deliver your portrait in person. Otherwise, I can ship across the UK for a small extra cost to cover secure, trackable postage and packaging.

All portraits are carefully packed to protect the artwork. I don’t use fixative spray, as it can alter the colours — so proper packaging is key!

Who own's the copyright?

I retain the copyright to all commissioned artwork and reserve the right to share or use your portrait to help market my work (e.g. on my website or social media).

You’re not permitted to reproduce your portrait commercially or make products from it without my permission. If I’d like to use your portrait to create products for sale (like prints or cards), I’ll always ask your permission first.

Tips for Photographing Your Pet

How to Photograph Your Pet

I work from photos to create my portraits, the results relies on having a good reference photo to work from. Here are my tips for getting the perfect shot.

1. Find an uncluttered area with good lighting. You want your pet to stand out in the photo, so make sure they are the main focus. Natural light is best, but avoid harsh direct sunlight that could wash them out or create unwanted shadows.

2. Get your pet to sit still or lay down so that their head and face are well positioned for the photo. Ask someone to help if you need it, even just holding treats near the camera may help keep their attention on where it needs to be! It is great if you can capture the glint in their eye.

3. Try different angles – one from the side may work better than one from directly above and don’t forget about close-ups – remember it’s important for me to capture details such as facial expressions and markings, so snap away until you have something that works.

4. Lastly, relax and have fun with it! Dogs in-particular, love being part of a game so take lots of shots – you can pick your favourite when reviewing them later, or send a few over to me and I will choose my favourite.
